I had heard many good things about this novel with many recommendations that, as a Harry Potter fan, I would enjoy it. I’m happy to say that it lived up to all of the hype. This is yet another example of a fine writer producing children’s literature that’s not all that childish. Like a really well-done cartoon, there’s plenty in its pages to entertain and amuse children and many references that will go straight over their heads but that adults will enjoy.

The language Colfer uses is really wonderful. He doesn’t try to dumb it down and the vocabulary is colorful and would be a nice challenge for younger children and yet it’s not so academic that it becomes daunting. Colfer uses colorful language and does an excellent job of setting the scene and creating believable and fun dialogue.

The best thing about this book, though, is Colfer’s prodigious imagination. Artemis is a very fun and unexpected character and the Butlers were also a lot of fun, particularly Julia with her penchant for wrestling. Colfer’s twists on traditional folklore and fairytale creatures is very innovative and his take on how the “Mud People” stereotype fairies, elves, and dwarves was a riot. Colfer is very adept at using such satire to great effect and while kids will find it funny, adults will appreciate how Colfer pokes fun at our own world.

Overall, this book is a great deal of fun and I look very forward to reading the next installment.
Destruction Overdrive

Bought this a few weeks ago and we played with all the family (including 3 grandkids) on vacation. Everyone loved it and we had a blast. Now playing it with friends back home, and couldn’t have more fun!

I ordered the book online. It is colorful and does contain some really good information given in a way that kids are willing to read and discuss it. I am pleased it is detailed, discussing protein, vitamins and such. However, I was quite disappointed to see the old food pyramid. I thought by now that it wouldn’t still be going into books about nutrition. If I could easily rip that page out I would. Frustrating

I order these digital scales and I love them. They have a nice large digital display and as soon as I step on them, my weight comes up. I don’t have to tap them first like alot of scales. I would recommend these scales to anyone. They are great.

This 8GB card works great in our Panasonic Lumix ZS3 digital camera. Fast, large capacity for photos and videos. Works great in a USB card reader for SDHC cards — super-fast transfer rates (as long as your card reader is fast as well, of course). You just have to make sure that when you insert the card, you don’t inadvertently slide the little lever into the “lock” position. But that’s easy if you’re paying attention at all. A great card for a great price. Highly recommended.

My daughter loves this video because she loves music plus Sesame characters. I think the video is too short, it seems to be over way more quickly than other DVDs we have and leaves her wanting more.
